Effect of logging residue removal and mechanical site preparation on productivity of the subsequent Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) stands

چکیده

Abstract Key message Removal of logging residue negatively affected tree diameter and height, but had no significant effect on the basal area subsequent stand (in mid-term). On other hand, different methods mechanical site preparation (bedding, plowing furrows, trenching) growth 1 year after planting, a diameter, in mid-term. Bedding treatments could have positive impact productivity Scots pine stands, even when planted sandy, free-draining soils. Context Increased use residues forests may address growing demand for renewable energy. However, concerns arisen regarding depletion forest soil, resulting decrease next generation. Identifying drivers be key to understanding relationship between removal productivity. Aims Quantifying three combined with five management (complete removal, comminution, incineration, leaving whole, comminution with, without mixing topsoil) 12 years planting. Methods The experiment was set up as randomized complete block design 45 plots replications combinations treatment methods. Results effects were not planting bedding caused increase DBH, years. Various did cause any differences survival rate nor next-generation stands; however, there influence sizes. Moreover, changed time; residues, trees highest years, their height DBH lowest. Conclusions It can concluded that stands. No found stands further confirms increased biomass from environment does necessarily result its rapid degradation. Observations at longer term are however needed obtain full spectrum responses removal.

Leaf area index and canopy strati cation in Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris L . ) stands

In order to assess the contribution of each layer to eVective leaf area index (LAI) in stratiŽ ed forest canopies, two Scots pine stands were selected in Haguenau forest, Alsace, France. One stand, 80 years old, had a sparse tree layer and a dense herb layer. The other stand, 50 years old, had a closed tree layer and dense herb and shrub layers. Hemispherical photographs, taken at 10-metre inte...

Characterization of a Lhcb5 cDNA from Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris).

Despite extensive studies on the LHC proteins of PSI and PSII (for review, see Jansson, 1994), the detailed polypeptide composition of LHC I and LHC I1 has not been understood until recently. The nature of the Lhcb5 gene product has been one of the major uncertainties, since it has been identified both as the CP26 (or the equivalent complex LHCIIc) polypeptide and one of two CP29 polypeptides (...

Identification and Quantification of Indole-3-methanol in Etiolated Seedlings of Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris L.).

Combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry has been used to identify indole-3-methanol in a purified buffer extract from etiolated seedlings of Pinus sylvestris L. Quantitative estimates obtained by high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection, corrected for losses occurring during purification, indicated that etiolated seedlings of P. sylvestris contained 19.7 +/- 1.4 ...

Fungal Infection Increases the Rate of Somatic Mutation in Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris L.).

Somatic mutations are transmitted during mitosis in developing somatic tissue. Somatic cells bearing the mutations can develop into reproductive (germ) cells and the somatic mutations are then passed on to the next generation of plants. Somatic mutations are a source of variation essential to evolve new defense strategies and adapt to the environment. Stem rust disease in Scots pine has a negat...
